FocusRace - Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 1, 2026
FocusRace (“FocusRace”, “we”, “us”) is a mobile app for iPhone and Android that helps you reduce
your screen time by turning it into a friendly competition with friends. This Privacy Policy explains
what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. By using FocusRace you agree to this
policy and to our Terms of Use.

1. Information we collect
- Account information - you create an account with Sign in with Apple,
Google, or an email address and password. We collect your email
address, a display name, and a unique account identifier. If you use Sign in with Apple you may
choose Apple’s private relay address, and Apple shares your name with us only once, at the moment
you first sign in. You may also choose a profile avatar.
- Screen-time and usage data - with your permission, FocusRace measures how long
your device is used so it can calculate your daily screen time, build your stats, and rank you on
leaderboards. This is the core function of the app. How the measurement works differs by platform:
- On iPhone, through Apple’s Screen Time APIs
(Family Controls and DeviceActivity), which you authorize for yourself.
Apple’s design deliberately keeps the detail on your device: the system tells the app only
that a usage threshold has been reached, never which apps you used. Because of that,
the iPhone figure is an estimate assembled from those threshold signals
rather than an exact reading.
- On Android, through Usage Access, which you grant in system
settings.
We only ever save and share your total, aggregated screen-time figure for a day.
We do not save, store, or share which specific apps you use, how long you spend in any individual
app, or any list of your apps. On Android that per-app detail stays on your device. On
iPhone we never receive it at all, because Apple does not disclose it to apps.
- Social and competition data - your display name, avatar, and screen-time standing
are visible to friends (“crews”) you connect with inside the app, so you can compete. We store who
is connected to whom, and pending friend requests, in order to run the races.
- Notifications - we store a device notification token (Firebase Cloud Messaging)
so we can send you alerts such as overtake notifications and daily summaries. It is removed from
your account when you sign out.
- Profile photo - if you set a custom avatar, that single image is uploaded and
stored with your profile. We do not read your photo library: on iPhone the photo
picker runs outside the app and hands us only the one picture you chose, which is why FocusRace
asks for no photo-library permission at all.
- Purchases - if you buy Premium, the app receives from the store a product
identifier and a transaction identifier, and sends them to our server to confirm your entitlement.
We never see or store your payment card details. See section 2.
- Support messages - if you contact us through the in-app Support page, we
receive your message and account identifier so we can reply.
- Crash diagnostics - the iPhone app includes Firebase Crashlytics,
which records a report when the app crashes: the stack trace, your device model, operating system
and app version, and an installation identifier. It is used to fix crashes and nothing else. The
Android app does not currently include crash reporting.
FocusRace contains no advertising, no ad networks, and no product-analytics tracking.
We do not collect your precise location, your contacts or address book, your photo
library, your messages, your activity in other apps beyond the aggregate usage time described above, or
your payment card details. As with any internet service, the providers listed in section 8 process your
device’s IP address in order to deliver the service.
2. Payments
Premium subscriptions and purchases are processed by the app store you bought them from:
Apple (the App Store, on iPhone) or Google Play Billing (on Android).
Payment is charged to your App Store or Google Play account, and refunds and cancellations are handled
by that store. FocusRace never sees or stores your payment card information. Apple’s and Google’s
handling of payment data is governed by their own policies.
3. How we use your information
- To provide the core service: calculate screen time, build stats, run races and leaderboards.
- To enable social features: show your standing to friends you connect with.
- To send notifications you’ve enabled.
- To confirm and restore Premium purchases.
- To respond to support requests.
- To maintain, secure, and improve the app, including fixing crashes.
4. How your information is stored and shared
Your data is stored using Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Messaging,
Cloud Functions and, on iPhone, Crashlytics) on Google’s secure infrastructure, acting as our service
provider. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not
share it with third parties for advertising. Certain information (your display name, avatar, and
screen-time standing) is shown to other FocusRace users you choose to connect with, as part of the app’s
competitive features.
What leaves your device
- Your daily totals: the day’s total screen time in minutes, the daily limit you set
for yourself, whether you met it, your rank in that day’s race, and a count of times you picked up
the phone. Your rivals see only the day total, your name and your avatar; the rest is private to
your account.
- Your social graph: which crews you belong to, who you are racing, and pending
friend requests.
- Your account details, your avatar image, your device’s notification token and time zone, your
purchase entitlement, and any support message you send.
What never leaves your device
- Which apps you use. On iPhone, Apple never gives this to FocusRace in the first
place. On Android it is used only on your own device to compute your total, and is never uploaded.
- The hour-by-hour breakdown of your day, which powers the app’s local insights, is
kept in the app’s own storage on the device.
- Anything from the Screen Time authorization itself: FocusRace cannot read, and does not receive,
the reports Apple shows you in the Settings app.
5. Data retention and deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your
account and associated data at any time by emailing
focusrace.official@gmail.com from the address
associated with your account, or using the in-app account deletion option where available (see
Delete your account). We will delete your personal data within 30
days, except where we must retain it to comply with the law.
6. Security
We protect your data in transit using encryption (HTTPS/TLS) and rely on Google Firebase’s security
infrastructure for storage. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable
measures to protect your information.
7. Children’s privacy
FocusRace is intended for users aged 18 and over and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly
collect personal information from children. On iPhone, FocusRace requests Screen Time authorization for
the person using the device only; it is not a parental-control app and cannot be used to monitor someone
else. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Third-party services
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or
object to its processing. To exercise these rights, contact
focusrace.official@gmail.com.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll post the new version here and update the
“Last updated” date.
